The artist has donated the full amount of his £25k honor cash to the trust for venues, which works to preserve the UK's grassroots live music spots.

He was given the award on October 16 as his latest record the album was chosen as the best record of the past year.

The musician has decided to hand the money over to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues played in his early career.

"I personally would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I played around the region, and further afield, when I was starting out," said the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have shut down – approximately 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, major artists such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits independent venues.

Fender also participated, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support 38 small stages across the UK.

The money helped locations that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties arising from flooding, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and sound issues.

Some locations obtained funding support in improving facilities and gear that positively impacted performers and audiences.

"The idea that revenue from performances in large arenas supports the local stages, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just logical," the star has stated.

He is not the first artist to donate his honor prize money to good deeds.

Back when Pulp received the trophy in 1996 for their record their work, lead singer Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would contribute their prize money to the organization the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite divided her prize among several good causes, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I donated a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked new equipment," the artist explained to a publication.

Two years ago, the band gave their winnings to the community center that nurtured their band, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

And the 1994 recipients the group contributed their prize to a charity for MS after a friend was identified with the illness.

"Winning was quite enough," stated vocalist the singer. "The money was the cherry on top but we could do without the bonus, because we had the cake. So our winning affected another person's life."

Last week, the trust announced it had rescued several small stages in the South East, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in Southampton and the other in that location were purchased under the community ownership initiative, which is backed by a national body and enthusiasts who buy "ownership units" in the properties.
