The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in employing video review systems.
Replay systems will make its debut at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Athletes are granted the option to question specific calls from the official, echoing the practice already in operation at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be operational on the main stadium and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This step arrives only a season following the AELTC introduced ELC, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but they can ask for the umpire to review other decisions, such as:
- If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a shot touched an opponent's racquet or person during play.
- Possible interference end of a point.
Notably, there will be no limit on the number of challenges a player can ask for.
Case in Point
A recent example took place in Indian Wells last week, where a top player initiated the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a tough call for the official, but thought his rival had "played the rules quite well."
The umpire watched a video and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, granting the point to his opponent.
Growing Trend
This technology aren't exclusive to Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.
Further Updates
A further change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves situations where fans have sometimes been uncertain if a ball was out or in.
Finally, with precisely 100 days to go until the beginning of the tournament, the AELTC have also announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
